Caldera IPA

Caldera IPA, originally uploaded by adambarhan.

A: Pours a clear, orangey-copper body with a small, bubbly white head.

S: Aroma of caramel malts with an herbal, citrus hop presence.

T: Mild caramel malt flavor and sweetness. Zesty citrus hops and the taste of fresh herbs. A pinch more of those caramel malts reemerge for the overall bitter finish.

Serving type: can at Homebrew club meeting.

Mother Brewing Lil’ Helper

A – Poured out a clear copper color with a one-finger, off-white head of bubbly foam. It left some sudsy lace on the glass.

S – It smelled piney with some nice floral notes. A touch of caramel, too.

T – It tasted very yeasty with some piney bitterness. A touch of citrus zestiness and some sweet caramel.

M – It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O – This is a nice American IPA. Curious to try more from Mother’s in Springfield, too bad they dont distribute here.

Trappistes Rochefort 6

Trappistes Rochefort 6, originally uploaded by adambarhan.

A: Pours a reddish rich mahogany (had to add the anchorman reference) with a large cream-colored head that’s got plenty of carbonation ridges.

S: Sweet, fruity esters lead into the dark fruits. Some spicy yeast. Quite creamy.

T: Some complex malts go with the dark fruits. Quite a bit of yeastiness as well.

M: Very creamy. Medium-bodied and with minimal carbonation. Slight alcohol hints after the swallow.

D: Quite a bit lighter than the 8 or the 10. Very good.

Boulevard Brewing Co. Unfiltered Wheat

Appearance: Pours a cloudy pale lemon color with touch of lace. I blame the plastic cup that was available.

Smell: Grainy wheat flavor with faint banana and lemon esters

Taste: Wheat taste with a hits of lemongrass.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied and heavily carbonated

Drinkability: Easy drinking summer beer, nice example of a Pale wheat ale.

Had at Big Bobs Burgers in San Antonio

St. Sebastiaan Golden

St. Sebastiaan Golden, originally uploaded by adambarhan.

Appearance: Pours a hazy honey color with sturdy lingering head

Smell: A hint of bread and biscuit with a touch of fruit, not a bad aroma but devoid of anything great.

Taste: Starts like it smells with bread and biscuits coming through,a hint of fruit in the middle, a bit sweet and finishes with a very subdued pepper note.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, light carbonation.

Drinkability: Welp. Not the most exciting Tripel if you can call it that. Cool bottle but pain in the ass to get the paint off for Homebrew use. Will pass on this in the future.

Serving type: bottle, split in two tulips.

Mikkeller Barrel-Aged Black Hole

Mikkeller Barrel-Aged Black Hole, originally uploaded by adambarhan.

A: Pours black in color with an off-white head that fades quickly

S: Buckets of dark roasted malt with a mild to moderate acidity. A bit of fireplace like smells coming in as well.

T: Very dark and roasted malty, Lots of acidity the taste of the fireplace coming in as well.

M: Medium bodied, medium carb.

O: Drain pour. Way to much ash and char flavor for me. Black and Tar like. Although not a huge RIS fan this one was over the top for me.

Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela

Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela, originally uploaded by adambarhan.

A: Pours a dark cloudy orange with a huge white head, had to wait a bit to drink it. Leaves lots of lace.

S: A touch of funk and sour coming though with some spices. Not much pumpkin which is nice

T: A touch sour and funky, the lightest pumpkin beer I have had. Sweet with a slight acid bite.

M: Moderate acidity, medium-bodied, dry slightly bitter aftertaste.

D: Interesting beer for sure. Very characteristic jolly pumpkin, not a spice/pumpkin bomb witch I did like.

Jolly Pumpkin Bam Noire

Jolly Pumpkin Bam Noire, originally uploaded by adambarhan.

A: Dark brown with red hints. Produces a off white head that settles quickly

S: Token funk coming through. A slight tannin maybe leather smell as well.

T: Slightly sour but eases up pretty quick to the familiar Saison taste.

M: light body with high carbonation that tingles.

D: A nice saison but not the best I have ever had. The sourness is a welcomed addition though

De Proefbrouwerij La Grande Blanche

T -Yeasty and spicy with a good wheat backbone. There was a subtle orange zestiness.

New Belgium Lips of Faith Tart Lychee

A: Hazy straw color with orange hue. Small white head that fades quickly

S: Quite tart with some noticeable fruit character, Some good green apple and lemon notes, along with a mild barnyard funkeness. Not sure what a Lychee is or smell like so cant compare it to that.

T: Lots of great lactic tartness and fruit flavors. Definitely some green apples, and lemons. The oak is there, mainly in a tannic and mildly funky form. Decent amount of brett funk and dryness.

M: A puckering tartness along with a dry finish, medium body, and moderate carbonation.

D:Great beer, nice balance, and complexity with a touch of sourness. I would buy this again for sure.
